About Us

The Centre of Excellence in e-Medicine (e-Medicine) is a new and exciting Western Australian state funded research organization that is undertaking research aimed at improving medical testing and diagnosis of diseases that currently require patients to travel to hospitals and central care settings. The researchers at e-Medicine are specifically focusing on the health care needs of people in remote and rural regions who may have difficulty accessing specialist health care services.

The activities of e-Medicine are focused on:

  • Research & Development of affordable, portable and non-invasive diagnostic tools;
  • Research & Development of intelligent electronic medical record systems, imaging algorithms and computer-aided diagnostic software;
  • Education & Training of healthcare professionals in the area of telemedicine; and
  • Clinical Services in rural and remote areas.

e-Medicine is founded on an impressive international network of researchers and health professionals. The core partners of e-Medicine are the Lions Eye Institute and the University of Western Australia. Other members of the Centre include Curtin University, Stanford University, Swinburne University and National ICT Australia. A number of health service delivery agencies, hospitals and medical industry partners also form the membership of this large international research centre, ensuring that the results of the research will be applied directly to patient care.

e-Medicine is ideally located in Perth, Western Australia, enabling effective testing and rollout of its telemedicine programs into the rural and remote communities located within the Pilbara region.
