LEI Youth Ambassador

LEI is thrilled to welcome Commonwealth Games champion, West Australian Kylie Wheeler, as the inaugural LEI Youth Ambassador.  Kylie has embraced this opportunity to raise community awareness of the importance of eye health and good vision.

An all round athlete, Kylie has been a regular competitor in heptathlon competitions since the age of 16.  During the 2002 season Kylie earned Commonwealth Games selection and although an outside chance before the Games, returned home with both a gold and silver medal.  Kylie was also a member of the successful 4x400m women’s relay team.  At the World University Games held in Korea in August 2003 Kylie not only won the heptathlon but also achieved a personal best score.

In June 2004 Kylie secured a place in the Athens Olympics with a stunning heptathlon win in Ratingen, Germany.  Kylie remained in Europe to compete in the 2004 Athens Olympics where she placed 18th after achieving personal bests in both the shotput and javelin events.

In June 2005, after a solid domestic season, Kylie ended up a clear winner of the "DLV-Mehrkampf Meeting" IAAF World Combined Challenge meeting in Ratingen, Germany.

Our athletics champion works part-time as a development officer with Athletica and in 2003 completed her Bachelor of Science degree.

Most recently Kylie secured a silver medal at the 2006 Melbourne Commonwealth Games in the heptathlon.
