Centre for E-Medicine

The Lions Eye Institute project to implement Telemedicine has now resulted in the creation of the Centre of Excellence in e-Medicine. Director of the Centre is Dr Kanagasingam Yogesan, Professor and chair in e-Medicine, who has managed the LEI Telemedicine project since its inception.

The Telemedicine project was developed to bring about the use of modern electronics and telecommunications facilities to allow on-line analysis of eye images taken in the field anywhere in the world, initially trialing in Western Australia and Indonesia.

Compression and storage software brought to the LEI and further developed by Professor Yogesan has opened up a whole new area of telemedicine which is being used by the Lions Clubs screening programs for eye disease, run by the Lions Save Sight Foundation.
