Richard has worked in the securities industry since 1965. He was employed by JB Were for 31 years – in Melbourne, London, and as a Partner and Director of the Perth office for 17 years until September 2003.
Richard’s responsibilities at JB Were included representing the firm within the corporate sector, advising professional investment and superannuation funds on their investment strategy and facilitating the placement of new and existing capital for ASX listed companies. During his time at JB Were, Richard was involved in facilitating the capitalisation of local companies, such as West Australian Newspapers Holdings Limited, Alinta Limited and Wesfarmers Limited.
From 2003 to June 2014 Richard consulted to Australia’s largest ASX listed investment company – Australian Foundation Investment Company (founded by his grandfather, Staniforth Ricketson in 1928).
Between February 2008 and February 2016, Richard was Employer Director on the Board of Western Australia’s largest industry superannuation fund, the Government Employees Superannuation Board.
He was also a Board Director of Royal Flying Doctors Service (Western Operations) from December 2007 to December 2016. And also represented the Western Operations on the Federal Board based in Canberra.
Richard was previously an adviser to the Murdoch University Foundation and is currently active in honorary advisory roles at the Murdoch University Veterinary Trust, Scotch College Foundation, and the Lions Eye Institute. He is also a trustee of the JP Stratton Trust. Richard is currently Chairman of the Investment Committee of Alder and Partners Private Wealth Management which is a business owned by his son David.
