Associate Professor Fred Chen is a consultant ophthalmologist and Research Director at the Lions Eye Institute, Royal Perth Hospital, Perth Children’s Hospitals, Royal Victorian Eye and Ear Hospital and the Royal Children’s Hospital.
He is the Co-Editor-in-Chief of Clinical Experimental Ophthalmology, a leading international journal.
Dr Chen has a PhD in retinal cell transplantation for macular degeneration and has led an active research group focusing on inherited retinal diseases, retinal imaging, clinical imaging, clinical trials endpoint and novel gene therapies. He is co-inventor of the VP-001 therapy for PRPF31-related retinitis pigmentosa. He is a principal research fellow with the Centre for Ophthalmology and Visual Science at The University of Western Australia and a clinical Associate Professor at the University of Melbourne.
