The Lions Eye Institute is delighted to announce that its founder and patron, Professor Ian Constable AO was recently elected as a Fellow of the Australian Academy of Health and Medical Sciences (AAHMS).
As an AAHMS Fellow, Professor Constable joins an elite group of Australia’s top medical and health researchers recognised for their outstanding achievements and commitment to health and medical science in Australia.
Throughout a career spanning five decades, Professor Constable has continually broken new ground in his field of ophthalmology.
Following his conviction, the basis of every medical advancement must be quality research, Professor Constable founded the Lions Eye Institute in 1983 with an innovative twist – it undertook both clinical treatment and research, each informing the other on an ongoing basis.
Today, with his continuing contribution to the Lions Eye Institute as its Patron, the results of his work are seen in the Institute’s ground-breaking research, world-class clinical advances and award-winning clinicians and researchers.
“I am thrilled to have been elected as an AAHMS Fellow,” Professor Constable said.
“It‘s a great honour to join leaders in Australian health and medical science as part of the great interdisciplinary team we have in this nation.”
The AAHMS provides impartial leadership on health and medical research in Australia, mentors the next generation and provides a forum for discussion about progress on medical research.
