Targeting At Risk Relatives of Glaucoma Patients for Early diagnosis and Treatment (TARRGET)

Targeting At Risk Relatives of Glaucoma Patients for Early diagnosis and Treatment (TARRGET)

The results of an earlier pilot study had shown that over 50% of screened firstdegree family members (FDRs) had signs suspicious of glaucoma or definite glaucoma. The findings also suggested that family members may not be accessing adequate screening pathways.

In collaboration with Glaucoma Australia and the WA Department of Health, the TARRGET project led by Professor David Mackey received an NHMRC Partnership Grant (2016-2020) to extend this work. These funds have allowed the study to expand nationally and assisted in the education and screening of FDRs.

TARRGET contacted participants in the Australian & New Zealand Registry of Advanced Glaucoma (ANZRAG) to invite their firstdegree relatives to participate in a screening program with information provided regarding the inheritable risk of glaucoma and the pathways for early detection.
