Perron Study

Perron Study

This study is looking at the Investigation of Optical Coherence Tomography Angiography (OCTA) as a non-invasive technique to detect early retinal microvascular dysfunction in children with Diabetes Mellitus.

Primary outcomes:
To see if there are changes that can be seen in the eye using OCT-A in diabetic children compared to non-diabetic children earlier than when they would normally be detected using the current standard of care.

To compare these early changes in the eye with biomarkers seen in the kidney for diabetic children.

  • This study is looking at the following cohorts:
Diabetic Participants – entering the longitudinal study
Children aged 10-18 diagnosed with diabetes Type 1 or 2
  • Diabetic patients entering the observational cohort
Children aged 10-18 diagnosed with diabetes Type 1 or 2 and a grading of “no retinopathy” per ETDRS classification
  • Healthy Participants entering the observational cohort
    Aged 10-18
