Professor Allison McKendrick has been elected President of the Imaging and Perimetry Society (IPS) — the first woman to lead the international society since it was founded in 1974.
| Professor McKendrick holds the Lions Eye Institute University of Western Australia (UWA) Chair in Optometry Research. Her work focuses on improving assessment of visual function, including perimetry, which involves measuring what a person can see across their whole field of vision, and how those results relate to images of the structure of the eye. Her research spans glaucoma, diabetic eye disease, macular disease, healthy ageing, migraine and visual snow syndrome.
“It is a privilege to take on this role leading the IPS, and I’m looking forward to supporting the next generation of researchers working in perimetry and ophthalmic imaging,” Professor McKendrick said. |

The IPS brings together around 160 researchers, clinicians and industry partners worldwide. It promotes the study of normal and abnormal vision and sets standards for the equipment and methods used to measure it. The society meets every two years at the International Visual Field and Imaging Symposium.
The most recent symposium was held in Bern, Switzerland, in August 2026, where Professor McKendrick presented alongside colleagues from the Lions Eye Institute and the UWA Department of Optometry and Vision Science. The next meeting will be held in Tokyo from 9 to 11 March 2028.
“Professor McKendrick’s appointment reflects the standing she has built over a long career, and it puts Western Australian vision research in front of a global audience,” Managing Director Dr Glen Power said.
